A constant throughout space and time is the admiration of heroes. Especially in today's society, heroes are at the forefront of media. Between the years 2010-2020, Marvel Studios has capitalized on society's obsession with heroes and produced five of the top ten highest-grossing movies. DC Comics have created some of the most iconic superheroes. And many stories teach a lesson on the heroic adventures of mankind. However, have heroic times passed away?

What is a Hero?
To reflect on the quote "Heroic Times have Passed Away," the term heroism must be defined. To be heroic means to have moral integrity, to be selfless, and to be courageous. Furthermore, heroism is the courage it takes to act against injustice in the world. To be a hero, one must initiate the change necessary that leads to the welfare of others.
Lack of Problems or Heroes?
"Heroic times have passed away" can mean one of two options. There are no injustices that need to be corrected, or there are no heroes left in the world. Both of these options do not match the reality that is present. Regardless of the times, humanity is not perfect. The one guarantee of life is that there will always be struggles and conflicts to overcome. With a continuous stream of problems, there will always be a need for people who selflessly dedicate themselves to help. Although the current times we are in is in a better situation than the entirety of history, the world remains in a state of imperfection. Large conflicts of war and poverty still exist around the world. Even so, there are smaller problems that appear closer to home. In a world so concerned with time, it is easy to overlook the potential for small acts of kindness. A selfless act of charity, no matter how small, is the start of developing the traits of a hero.
Conclusion
Throughout history, societies revere heroism and despise selfishness. We have an unconscious attraction to heroism because we know that it is a moral ideal. Humanity seeks goodness; people want to be rich; people want to be happy; people want to be heroes. Since it is difficult to be a famous hero, we idolize those who reach the grand status. Although it is difficult to become like our heroes, people fail to recognize that it does not occur overnight. Small selfless acts make larger acts seem easy, and, in time, the traits of a hero fully develop.
